YouTube introduces sponsored videos
YouTube now offers a new paid-for service allowing users to promote their videos by reaching viewers who might be potentially interested.
The sponsored videos will be published alongside search results exactly like the “sponsored links" are on a Google search. Anyone can promote their YouTube video by bidding on keywords.
"We try to mix the best of Google with the best of YouTube", says Matthew Liu, product manager at YouTube. Advertisers can associate their videos with certain keywords, just as they do for Web pages on Google. While clearly identifiable as sponsored, these videos come first in search results from YouTube. As with “AdWords”, advertisers pay proportionately to the success of their campaign - the number of clicks.
The sponsored video service is currently only offered in the US, but YouTube aims to extend it to other countries soon.
